Networking: Diagnostic

To evaluate the status of our network, computer, my computer is connected to the network but does not reach internet (for example) and more other cases, we have a section in Networking → diagnostic which can do various checks such as:

Ping

To check if your computer has a network connection, pc, router, etc, we will configure the settings as follows:

  • Type: PING
  • Parameters:
    • Destination: [IP to destination].
    • Counter: [Number of checks you want do].

TCP Ping

To check any TCP connection to one specific port, we will configure the settings as follows:

  • Type: TCP PING
  • Parameters:
    • Destination:Port: [IP to destination]:[Port].
    • Counter: [Number of checks you want do].

UDP Request

To send UDP trafic to one specific ip and port, we will configure the settings as follows:

  • Type: UDP REQUEST
  • Parameters:
    • Destination: [IP to destination]:[Port].
    • Timeout: [The allowed maximal time for a process to end normally].
    • Counter: [Number of checks you want do].

Traceroute

To check the sites your computer through which to reach the destination.

  • Type: TRACE ROUTE
  • Parameters:
    • Destination: [IP to destination].
    • Timeout: [The allowed maximal time for a process to end normally].
    • Counter: [Number of checks you want do].

Network Scan

This option shows a list of all conected devices in a network.

  • Type: NETWORK SCAN
  • Parameters:
    • Destination / CIDR: [IP to destination] / [NetMask].
    • Timeout: [The allowed maximal time for a process to end normally].

Host Scan

This option shows a list of all open ports on a host.

  • Destination: [IP to destination].
  • Timeout: [The allowed maximal time for a process to end normally].

Packets Capture

To capture traffic that pass in CommsMundi on all network interfaces or only a specific one, it can be done using the tool locate in the page “Networking → Diagnostic page” in the tab “Packets capture”. Using this tool allows you to download a .pcap file containing the resulting capture, so you can later on open with a network protocol analyzer program, for example wireshark.

The steps to perform a capture are:

  1. Timeout: 30 seconds
  2. Size: 20
  3. click: start to begin the diagnostic
  4. after the diagnostic stop you can download the resulting file from the table files by clicking on the name of the file you wish to download.

:!: If the size of the capture is superior than the configured size the system rotates to a new file, and so on until the time is finished or the capture is stopped.
